Veteran housing opens with Memorial Day timing

Tuesday, May 29, 2012

A ribbon cutting was held for the completed Clinton Hill Apartments the day after Memorial Day.  HELP USA, joined by Mayor Cory A. Booker, various city officials, and Newark Veterans, celebrated its LEED® for Homes™ Platinum certification. This 56-unit apartment building in Newark’s South Ward will provide permanent, affordable housing for veterans and low-income families. The project implemented various sustainable elements such as water sense plumbing fixtures, energy-efficient mechanical equipment, ENERGY STAR labeled appliances and light fixtures, as well as a roof terrace and garden where residents have started to grow fresh vegetables.  Residents of Clinton Hill Apartments will also enjoy computer rooms, a fitness center, meeting rooms, and community service space for programs to serve veterans, other tenants, and members of the local community.
